If you earn from platforms abroad, you are earning income that may need to be declared. Tax rules differ by situation and change over time, so speak to a qualified tax adviser about your own case. What you can control is your paperwork.
Keep one folder per year
Name it clearly, store a copy in the cloud, and add to it every month rather than once a year.
What goes in it
- Platform statements: monthly earnings reports from YouTube, Fiverr, TikTok, Upwork or wherever you earn.
- Invoices and contracts for direct clients.
- Payout confirmations showing the amount and date.
- Bank credit advice or statements showing the rupees that arrived.
- Conversion receipts from any service that exchanged the money for you, showing rate and fee.
- Expense receipts for equipment, software and internet you use for the work.
Match the trail
For every payout, you should be able to follow one line: platform statement, then payout confirmation, then conversion receipt, then bank credit. If a link is missing, ask for it now while it is easy.
